Ines Regunega
What is art for you?
For me arts is the most beautiful way of expression, a way of screaming out what is inside of us.
How are your photos born?
With this question I realized that I have been taking pics since i was a kid, specially from people, but i became aware of it just when i started to feel the urge to bring with me all the situations I met in the surroundings.
The first photo I took whisper in my ear that photography was my path, it was back in 2001 while Argentina lived a strong crisis; a woman with a stone broke a window shop from a Bank.
What is for you to be an artist?
I think all the person have something inside to express, some of them choose to not follow their expression, and other embrace the urge of this wonderful world called arts, I guess, because of the impetuous need of feeling free. What makes me think is that artist that who liberates this power and manifests it.Is an artist one who screams out.
Tell us a short story about one of your photos:
The Cairo Woman.
This photo was taken after a long immersion in the history of this place.
They recommended me to respect women because they are obbligated to keep a low profile here.
But this woman, was not any like the other, for my eyes she had something special. She was a seller accompanied by a blind little girl and had a few bags with her. Despite the obvious tiredness shown by her shoes, she gave the exclusivity of her smiles just to the little girl.
The lines of this woman caught my attention, those wrinkles spoke about the passing of time, the tiredness and lived experiences; but at the same time showed an alertness, a ready attitude to keep walking in that street full of men.
Without worries she finished her cigarette, stood up, took the little girl by hand, all the bags and left.
Still now I wonder how many other stops she has to make before arriving to her destination.
What inspires you?
What inspires me the most is to discover that there are infinite ways of living life.
What do you expect from the observer?
I always hope i can transmit some of the feelings I had when I made the photo, is not always joy, actually sometimes I feel delusion, sadness or impotence. But if the observer perceives any of all these feelings then my channel of transmission is obtaining the right effect.
Do you have any dreams still to become true? and what are your future projects?
I am a big dreamer, I could write here for hours; but for now I’ ll share one dream: to live in Paris, in Montmartre and enjoy playing piano on sundays afternoon with my glass of red wine (Argentinian of course!)
For now the project I am working on is to open a school of arts in Paraguay.
If you were a question what question would you be?
Why you made that choice? (constant seeker of "why")
