For pleasure, yes. A break from the ordinary, yes. But as with many things of serious value, there is more — an extra dimension that is the source of its power.  The artist’s act is “representation.”  Revealing and documenting something seen, experienced or felt, but not previously known in that way.  This awakened vision comes from absorbing context and surroundings, through links, comparisons and juxtapositions — perhaps dramatizing what is missing or misaligned.  Who are these people and what are their stories?
